14 Feb A Family-Friendly Guide to Poland
Traveling abroad with a toddler might sound overwhelming, but our trip to Poland proved that with the right planning, it can be an adventure filled with incredible memories. We visited three of Poland’s most vibrant cities — Warsaw, Kraków, and Gdańsk — each offering its own charm, history, and family-friendly experiences. From historic Old Towns to seaside strolls, here’s a guide to making the most of Poland with a little one in tow.
Warsaw
The Perfect Blend of History and Modern Comforts
Where to Stay:
If you’re looking for the perfect family-friendly stay in Warsaw, the Sofitel Warsaw Victoria is a fantastic choice. Located in the heart of the city near the Old Town, this luxurious yet welcoming hotel offers an unbeatable location for exploring Warsaw on foot. Families will love the convenience, but one of the real highlights is the incredible breakfast buffet. With a wide selection of fresh pastries, local delicacies, and kid-friendly options, it’s the perfect way to start a day of exploring.

Where to Eat:
Old Town Warsaw is a food lover’s paradise, with countless incredible restaurants serving up everything from traditional Polish cuisine to modern European fare — you really can’t go wrong no matter where you choose to dine. For an authentic taste of Poland, we definitely recommend stopping by Zapiecek: A Pierogarnia to enjoy freshly made pierogi, stuffed with everything from classic potato and cheese to rich, savory meats. If you’re up for a little adventure beyond Old Town, one must-visit spot is Stary Dom, a charming and historic restaurant known for its homestyle Polish dishes and cozy atmosphere. While it’s a bit of a trek from the Old Town area, Warsaw’s public transit is so efficient and easy to navigate that getting there is absolutely worth it.

What to Do:
- Old Town & Market Square – Walk around this beautifully reconstructed part of the city and stop for a snack while toddlers explore the cobblestone streets.
- Łazienki Park – A perfect outdoor spot with peacocks, swans, and plenty of space to run around.
- Copernicus Science Centre – An interactive museum with plenty of hands-on exhibits to keep curious little ones entertained.
Kraków
A City Steeped in Charm & Legends
Where to Stay:
For a luxurious and convenient stay in the heart of Kraków, the Radisson Blu Hotel is an excellent choice. Situated just a short walk from the historic Old Town, this stylish hotel offers both comfort and prime location. The rooms are modern, spacious, and well-equipped, providing a perfect retreat after a day of sightseeing.
Where to eat:
Kraków’s Historic Old Town offers an endless array of dining options that cater to every taste and preference. From cozy cafes to elegant fine dining spots, there’s something for everyone. You’ll find traditional Polish restaurants serving hearty local dishes like pierogi, żurek, and placki ziemniaczane, as well as international cuisine ranging from Italian to Asian fusion.

What to do:
If you’re looking for a fun and active way to explore Kraków, we highly recommend the Fat Tire Bike Tour. This guided bike tour is a fantastic way to see the city’s most iconic sights, from the historic Old Town to the beautiful Vistula River. The relaxed pace makes it perfect for all ages and fitness levels, and the knowledgeable guides share fascinating stories and historical insights along the way. It’s a great way to cover more ground while enjoying Kraków’s beauty in a fun and memorable way!
Gdańsk
A Seaside Escape with Fairytale Vibes
Where to Stay:
For a stylish and comfortable stay in Gdańsk, the Radisson Blu Hotel is a top choice. Located in the heart of the city’s picturesque Old Town, this hotel puts you just steps away from key attractions!
Where to eat:
If you’re craving authentic, handmade pierogi, Pierogarnia Mandu is an absolute must-visit. This beloved local spot is famous for its wide variety of pierogi, from classic fillings like potato and cheese to more creative options, including seafood and dessert pierogi. Each batch is freshly made by hand, ensuring a delicious, authentic taste of Polish cuisine. With generous portions and a menu that caters to both traditionalists and adventurous eaters, Pierogarnia Mandu is the perfect place to experience one of Poland’s most iconic dishes!

What to do:
Gdańsk is known for its stunning waterfront and exciting water activities, but since we visited in the winter, we opted for a covered golf cart tour — and it was the perfect way to explore the city while staying warm and bundled up! This cozy, guided ride took us through Gdańsk’s historic streets, past landmarks, all while learning fascinating stories about the city’s past. The small, open-air design (with protective covers for chilly days) made it easy to take in the sights without the hassle of walking in the cold.
Toddler Travel Tips
Traveling abroad with a toddler can be an adventure in itself! Here are five essential tips to help make the journey smoother and more enjoyable:
Pack Smart, but Light
Bring essentials like, snacks, a few favorite toys, and extra outfits, but don’t overpack. Most necessities can be found at your destination, so focus on must-haves like a lightweight stroller, a baby carrier (if necessary), and comfort items for the flight.
Plan Flights/Trains Around Nap Time
If possible, book flights that align with your toddler’s sleep schedule. Overnight or nap-time flights can make long journeys easier, and bringing familiar sleep items (like a blanket or stuffed animal) can help them settle in.
Choose Accommodations Wisely
Look for family-friendly hotels or rentals with extra space, kitchenettes, and easy access to parks or walkable areas. Having a separate sleeping area for your toddler can also make bedtime much smoother.
Stick to a Loose Routine
While travel means flexibility, keeping some familiar routines (like mealtime and bedtime) can help prevent meltdowns. Bringing along their favorite snacks or bedtime story can make the transition easier.
Be Prepared for Downtime
Exploring is fun, but toddlers can get overstimulated. Plan breaks, playground stops, and slow mornings to help them adjust. A well-rested toddler is much happier — and so are their parents!
Overall, Poland exceeded our expectations as a family travel destination. Each city had something unique to offer, and we loved how easy it was to explore with a toddler. Whether you’re indulging in delicious Polish food, learning about the country’s rich history, or simply strolling through its picturesque streets, Poland is a destination worth experiencing with your little one.
